About the Position
Under the general direction of the Executive Director, the
Technician performs technical and administrative work in supporting
and maintaining the Point of Sales (POS) systems and related
devices. Work involves maintenance and support of all POS-related
devices, cash registers, terminals, networked and standalone
printers, label printers, scanning equipment, and all other
IT-related equipment. Provides consultative support and services to
the user community to ensure problem resolution, system/data
access, and optimal system performance. Provides technical advice
and expertise in the evaluation, purchase, upgrading, and
maintenance of software and/or hardware resources. Provides
training and communication materials to users that maximize their
ability to utilize system capabilities, features, and other

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
60% -- System & User Support:
--- Provide telephone, email, video, or on-site support
--- Install, configure, and modify applications, databases, and
other systems - especially related to the Oracle Simphony POS
system and hardware
--- Work to propose creative and effective resolutions for complex
--- Administration of security across desktop user access to server
systems & POS systems
--- Supports, maintains, installs POS system computers (servers,
desktops, cash registers, laptops, and tablets)
--- Supports, maintains, and installs POS related devices, like POS
printers, scanners and credit card readers
--- Supports, maintains, and installs all scanning equipment,
including handheld scanners and wireless access points
--- Supports, trains, sets up, and troubleshoots users
--- Operates a variety of equipment such as copier, scanner, fax
machine, video conferencing, telephone equipment, smartphones,
power vault, computer, etc.
--- Interacts and communicates with various users across campus
--- Prepares documentation of all adds, moves, and changes
throughout the network
--- Performs general administrative/office duties as required,
including preparing reports and correspondence, entering and
retrieving computer data, copying and filing documents, sending and
receiving faxes, answering the telephone, etc.
25% -- Projects and Needs Analysis:
--- Research available products and systems and recommend
alternatives to meet identified needs
--- Participate in needs assessments and evaluate potential
purchases for compatibility with existing systems
--- Prepare requests for proposals, cost estimates, and
--- Applies broad knowledge of principles, practices, and
procedures to the completion of difficult assignments
--- Consults with other business units to arrive at appropriate
--- Consults with users to identify and document software/system
purpose, workflow issues, output needs and to determine overall

--- Develop and conduct training and self-guided tutorials on
equipment, applications, databases, and related systems
--- Write user documentation, user guides, instructor guides,
training outlines, and technical training publications

At least two (2) years of college coursework in the field of
Information Technology or a similar field.
Bachelors' Degree in Information Technology Preferred
At least three (3) years working experience as an information
technology technician or a systems integrator/analyst in a customer
service environment supporting various computer platforms,
hardware, and software with experience in the maintenance and
support of Point-of-Sales (POS) systems, both hardware and
software. Experience in Oracle Simphony POS and Micros systems is
preferred, but experience in any POS software is acceptable.
The incumbent should be highly skilled at working on a variety of
POS hardware, software, and applications while diagnosing/fixing
issues; have programming and configuration experience; experience
working with integration vendors to determine multi-phased project
approaches; experience with report generation using OneSolution,
Cognos, Oracle Hospitality Simphony POS, etc. reporting tools; and
experience in creating and utilizing test environments as well as
implementing and maintaining production environments. Possess
progressive work experience to be able to demonstrate competence in
independently applying technical judgment to standard and
nonstandard applications and systems, solving a wide range of
problems and developing practicable and thorough solutions, and
using effective communication and listening skills.
