Job Description:

SUMMARY This position is responsible for leading the Quality Assurance inspection team. The lead will provide leadership and direction to their team to obtain quality food products under a safe environment, cost control, and customer orientation. The QA lead acts as the leader in managing the compliance with regulatory bodies such as FDA, NSF, Organic, USDA and Kosher. The QA lead will provide constant training to Quality Assurance personnel and internally will constantly interact with the departments of Operations, Sanitation, Maintenance, and Warehousing. High degree of Integrity ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, but are not limited to: Responsible for assuring that microbiological testing of finished goods, positive release, and customer communication (such as certificate of analysis requests/generation) is accomplished in a timely manner.

Responsible for conducting the microbiological specifications annual verification program.

Responsible for the scheduling of Quality Assurance Technicians to assure the proper coverage for all shifts.

Generates shelf-life report in order to identify corrective/preventative actions.

Investigates customer complaints along with QA Management.

Responsible for reviewing daily Quality and Food Safety records and file accordingly.

Manages Pre-Requisite verification done weekly and responsible for escalating issues to upper management.

Conducts training sessions for quality and production personnel pertaining to safety practices, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), food safety, and test methods.

Conducts internal quality systems and food safety audits, prepare summaries, devise correction action with proper department managers, and follow up on the implementation of corrective/preventive actions. Initiates appropriate measures to enforce adherence to standard specifications and customer requirements.

Coordinates with the Quality Assurance Supervisor to determine appropriate procedures for production incidents relating to quality.

Coordinate and monitor Environmental Program. Assures that tests are conducted, submitted to outside laboratory, reviews and summarizes results for management.

Embraces and champions Good Manufacturing Practices and consistently enforces them. Specifically, enforces compliance with HACCP programs and with the requirements of external quality-related institutions.

Observes strict product specifications, based on customers" requirements, and takes the lead to work with other plant departments to enforce such specifications.

Follows documented policies and procedures as designated by the Company"s Quality System. Partners with Production to meet Company Food Safety Standards, ensuring consistent quality and appearance of products.

Enforces and promotes workplace safety rules with all team members and is the best example of safe work practices and behavior.

Coordinates and conducts weekly safety training with team members following the published training schedule. Completes all required training records and ensures fully understanding of material covered.

Trains and coaches" employees; answering employee questions, helping employees with problems, and oversees employee work for quality, productivity, food safety and workplace safety compliance.

Provides encouragement to team members, including communicating team goals and providing effective feedback.

Trains back up personnel to assure proper maintenance of tasks and responsibilities.

Communicates regularly with and in coordination with Supervisor in assigning duties to employees and examining work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to specifications.

Fosters a positive and respectful work environment.

Maintains professional and technical knowledge by completing all course work assigned by Company

Is punctual, on time, and adheres to company attendance policies. Overtime and weekend work will be required based on business needs. Regular Attendance is an essential job function.

May perform other duties as assigned. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY This position does not have supervisory responsibilities involving interviewing, hiring, firing or disciplining. However, they are responsible for developing employee skills through training and coaching and for observing and reporting issues regarding employee productivity, quality and safety performance in an assigned area. FOOD SAFETY AND QUALITY Responsible for oversight of their areas of responsibility of the plant"s Food Safety & Quality Management Systems. This position provides oversight and guidance to staff members to ensure the manufacturing of quality food and is responsible for identifying product that does not meet the food safety and quality requirements of the company, and preventing its distribution. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Minimum High School education or one-year certificate from college or technical school; or one to two years" related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience working in industry regulated by FDA and/or USDA preferred. Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively under highly stressful conditions.

Ability to prioritize and organize work, handle multiple tasks, and work with a sense of urgency.

Ability to embrace change and lead through delegation and strong follow through.

Ability to develop and maintain positive work relationships.

A proven track record showing the ability seek process improvements. LANGUAGE SKILLS Bilingual English / Spanish preferred. Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, manuals and guides. Ability to effectively present information to management and manufacturing employees. Strong communication skills (verbal and written) with ability to communicate in English are required. PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, extreme cold, extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Employee will be required to work in an environment in which normal temperature ranges from 30° to 40°.
