And we will be 100% committed to helping you reach your full potential.Job Description -The Technical Supervisor, Marine Services EHS [TS] will further develop and manage the NAM Marine onboard sampling program and support the NAM team for technical concerns. - Responsibilities include development of testing protocols, leading staff performing shipboard testing, manage training and safety program, act as subject matter expert for internal and external stakeholders, create bids/proposals, conduct business develop as needed, create technical reports, provide customer consultation. - TS will spend +50% of time conducting onboard testing. - This position reports into the Operations Manager, Marine Services EHS.Job functions:

  • Oversees a team of Inspectors & Technical Supervisors
  • Serves as a technical subject matter expect
  • Trains more junior staff
  • 50% of the time performs Inspector's job duties

  • Project bids/proposals
  • Creates technical reports
  • Some Business Development responsibilities
  • Develop technical services
  • Travels onboard vessels to conduct testing
  • Ensures logistics are in place for testing events
  • Supports NAM Marine Services team for technical matters and customer consultation
  • Further develops, delivers, and maintains Safety Program for SGS Inspectors
  • Further develops, delivers, and maintains Training Program for SGS Inspectors
  • In concert with the Global Marine Team, develops testing protocols to meet customer needs and to offer new services
  • Demonstrates a deep working knowledge of regulatory, academic, and technical matters relating to Marine work
  • Collaborates with SGS Global Marine Services team to ensure consistent and high-quality service delivery
  • Adheres to internal standards, policies and procedures
  • Performs other duties as assigned.Qualifications -Education:
    • Associate Degree and -5+ years of experience OR Bachelor's degree in Marine Environmental Science, Environmental Science, or related field preferred and 2+ years of experience OR equivalent combination of education and experience. (Required)
    • Bachelor's degree in Marine Environmental, Environmental Science, Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, or related field preferred. - Degrees in other fields will also be considered, or equivalent work experience AND 5 -years of experience in Marine Environmental Compliance, Technical Lab work, Marine Policy, Marine Logistics, Environmental Testing, Water Treatment, or related fields. (Preferred)Knowledge / Skills / Abilities: - - - - -
      • Advanced English language skills (Required); Multi-lingual (Preferred)
      • Intermediate mathematical skills (Required)
      • Advanced reasoning skills/abilities (Required) -
      • Intermediate computer skills -in Microsoft office suite (Required); Advanced experience with Laboratory Information Systems (Preferred) -
      • Ability to work effectively in high pressure, high volume, high growth environment, balancing several assignments concurrently with different deadlines
      • Excellent presentation, interpersonal, and communication skills with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in person, on phone, and via email with internal stakeholders and all levels of management of customer
      • Ability to gather and review information and synthesize data for reports and other written materials.

      • High level ability to influence stakeholders and management
      • Professional credibility, preferable through an understanding of the environmental, shipping, and/or treatment system industries

      • Technical laboratory analysis experience (Preferred)
      • Knowledge of shipping industry (Preferred)
      • Logistics experience (Preferred)
      • Knowledge of environmental regulations (Preferred)
      • Shipboard experience (Preferred)Travel:
        • Travels up to 80% of time; some travel might be international
        • TS will travel extensively to perform testing onboard shipsEquipment: -
          • This job operates in a professional office environment & onboard vessels. - This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers and phones
          • Dissecting Microscope
          • Fluorescent Microscope
          • Microbiology laboratory equipment such as incubator, pipettes, petri dishes, etc.
          • Ballast water sampling device
          • Handheld field meters for pH, chlorine, salinity, ATP, PAM, etc.
          • Troubleshooting onboard treatment systems
          • Onboard sensors and sensor calibration
          • Various other equipment as needed for onboard testing of water, air, smoke, food, oil, etc.Work Hours:
            • Business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
            • Work requires willingness to work a flexible schedule
            • Longer hours, evenings and/or weekend work will be necessary occasionally/frequently as job duties demand
